The Art of Being An Orioles Fan
Depressed after yet another season of Orioles baseball? Don’t worry, being an Orioles fan is tough, but it isn’t impossible. Here are my tips on how to be an Orioles fan through these lean years.
• Focus on the positive. Don’t think “We got crushed again” think “Wasn’t that a great double play in the third!” Sure, we lose a lot, but almost every game has at least one good moment, revel in it, its all you get.
• Remember the golden years. “Cal Ripken, Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Jim Palmer and his buddy Earl Weaver, those were the good old days weren’t they? Hmmm, Yeah, now that you mention it, it was a long time ago…”
• Celebrate when we actually win one. Sure, it is only one game a series against the Yankees or Red Sox, but hey, at least it is one game a series most of the time, it could be worse.
• Hope for the future. Every fan can do this one, it costs nothing, which is good since that is what the team is likely to spend in the off season.
• Enjoy the end of the year race. Ok, not the race for the pennant or the wild card, that is way out of reach, but the race between the Orioles and the Devil Rays is always a tight one and the Orioles have won it pretty well so far! Better watch out though, those Devil Rays may pull of an upset if the Orioles let it slip any farther than they normally do. Makes every game mean something for me, even late in the year.
I will be honest, all this is hard work, but nobody ever said it would be easy to love a team with so little potential. I still do, I watch or listen to as many games as I can and I check the box score every morning, sadly, I am an Orioles fan. Still it is easier than being an Devil Rays fan, but just.

Don’t forget the exciting race between the Nats and the O’s to see who will finish with a better record! That one is VERY close, and may come down to the last weekend of the season …
