September 19th: Today in 1796 George Washington’s Farewell Address was published in papers, quickly becoming one of the most important guiding documents of the early United States.

As much as I suspect I would have disliked Washington if I met him at a party, I stand pretty much right behind his sentiments in this document which rails against political parties, foreign entanglements and calls for politicians to remember basic morality. It is a shame our nation couldn’t seem to listen.
