Today In History: The Battle of Tippecanoe
November 7th: Today in 1811 the American forces of William Henry Harrison faced the Indian forces of Tenskwatawa at the Battle of Tippecanoe. The American’s held off an Indian attack for two hours before the Indians were forced to abandon their attack and the village they were defending. The American force is thought to have lost more men than the Indian force, but it held the ground at the end of the day and the loss of the village was blow the Indian cause. The leader of the Indians rebellion, Tecumseh, was not at the battle and his carefully formed alliance of Indian tribes fell apart following it. Tecumseh continued his war and allied with the English in the War of 1812. He was killed at the Battle of the Thames in 1813.
