Today In History: The Beer Hall Putsch
November 8th: Today in 1923 Adolf Hitler attempted to overthrow the German government in the Beer Hall Putsch. The plan was pull off a military coup with only a small force of fascists but the bad planning and confusion within the Nazi ranks led to the attempt becoming a complete shambles which was quickly suppressed. Sadly the threat the Nazis presented was not taken seriously, with Hitler serving only an eight month sentence for the coup attempt, and the Nazis were left free to take over the government by more legal means.
