Today In History: Death of Oscar Wilde

November 30th: Today in 1900 Oscar Wilde died and lost a duel. In the months before his death he is reputed to have said:

My wallpaper and I are fighting a duel to the death. One or other of us has got to go.

Wilde lost.

    I had always thought it was “either those curtains have got to go, or I do” which goes to show that it is easier to get the sense of quote right than the actual quote itself. Of course, I also thought it was “Hop! Hop! Hop on Pop! No kids, no kids, stop, stop, stop!” so my memory for quotes is just poor.
