December 2nd: Today in 1805 Napoleon won one his most brilliant victories at the Battle of Austerlitz. Today Napoleon has gone from his reputation as a genius to being used as a comedy icon for craziness but the Battle of Austerlitz is an example of why the military leaders for a hundred years after his death studied his campaigns closely. Simply put Napoleon used his army with a precision and boldness that had previously thought to be impossible. No this doesn’t excuse his lust for power or his arrogance but if you want to see why people thought so much of Napoleon, take a look at this battle.
