Today In History: 300 Million Yen Heist

December 10th: Today in 1968 one of the biggest robberies in Japanese history took place, the 300 Million Yen Robbery (worth about 18 million dollars in today’s money). The money stolen by what appears to have been an extremely clever conman. The robber stopped a car carrying cash by pretending to be a policeman and told the occupents there was bomb under their car. He crawled under the car and set off a flare while looking for the ‘bomb’ then as the bank’s staff backed away from the ‘bomb’ he hoped into the car and drove away. He was never caught, the story became the basis for numerous movies and books but to this day no one knows who really did it.

Obviously the thief used bad martial arts mind control techniques.

Yep, that and that-trick-only-works-once-fu. I used that once at an SCA event and actually got a guy to look to see if his shoelace was untied before I popped him in the head. Sadly this was not worth 18 million to anyone.
