Today In History: Thomas Venner Executed

January 19th: Today in 1661 Thomas Venner and others who had followed him in the The Fifth Monarchy Revolt were executed in London. The revolt had been quickly suppressed with only around forty deaths in the fighting and it lead a crack down on religious dissent in England. The Fifth Monarchy Men believed that Christ would return in 1666 and had been prominent in politics in the years prior to and during the English Civil War, but had seen their influence fall off before Venner tried his attack on London.
