I love England for its quirks and this is a fun one, the Ashbourne Shrovetide Football game. The game is played in two eight hour halfs and is played on a three mile long field with a cork ball. They have been playing it since at least the 1680s. Be sure to check out the photos of the town boarding up all the shop windows and doors for the game. Brilliant. God save the Queen!
