Today In History: Last Invasion of Britain
February 22nd: Today in 1797 a small French Army of around 1,400 men landed near Fishguard in Wales becoming the last invading army to land in Britain. The army consisted mostly on former convicts and was led by a septuagenarian General whose plan was to burn Bristol and rally the British poor to revolution. The plan failed completely, the army sat around and got drunk before surrendering days later, ending the invasion somewhat less gloriously than the previous sortie from France in 1066.
