Went and saw 300 tonight. I enjoyed it, but it left me feeling I had just watched the best propaganda movie for an evil nation ever produced. This movie would have made any Nazi film maker feel proud. I had the graphic novel years ago and the look of the movie is a brilliant take on comics art brought to life, very well done.

It is all about the glory and being heroic. I read a review that said ‘most modern war movies add at least a token anti-war slant but this one doesn’t‘ and that is correct, this is a pro be a hero movie, all the bad guys get their just deserts, the good guys die, but die totally heroically. It isn’t history, but it is closer to the feel of the legend than most history movies are.

I kept choking on my own dislike of the Spartan culture from the period. I really find it to be one of the most loathsome cultures I have ever read about and the movie makes it look like the boy scouts. Still, as action movies go 300 is a clear winner, just don’t dwell on the history.
