Captain America Is Dead, Oh Noes!
Ok, I am a comic fan and I was amazed by the whole Captain America died hubub. I think Mike Sterling got it right in his somewhat sarcastic take on the news. That said, I have been unimpressed with Marvel comics direction this year and other than the Marvel Adventures line kids line, which is brilliant, I am pretty much cutting out my comics buying for now.
The big comic event for Marvel was something called Civil War, I thought the story had promise and the comics were pretty but in the end I really disliked the series. The heroes I grew up with just didn’t act like anything I recognized. Iron Man acted more like Dr. Doom than Doom himself has been lately. Marvel sold a ton of Civil War comics so I suspect I will just have to accept the new Marvel universe just isn’t for me. The capper for me was Civil War Frontline #11 in which a reporter lectures Captain America about how he is out of step with America. It stank. Fortunately, Tetsubo Productions has produced a better version which you can read here.
So rest in peace Captain America, until you pop out of whatever birthday cake they eventually have you pop out of. Good luck to Marvel, I am glad they got some publicity out the whole thing. I will check back in on their comics in a few years, maybe the wind will have shift some back towards my direction.

It’s hard for me to beleive they would kill off such an iconic character like Captain America. Some serious symbolism there. It looks like the Punisher may take up the mantle though.
I recently did a story about Cap’s Death over at Highbrid Nation. I wanted to talk about it from the perpective of the Hip Hop community. Check it out if you get a chance.
