Two Great Web Comics

I wanted to point out two great web comics I have been enjoying lately. The first is XKCD, which I think I have pointed out before. It is popular on Reddit and other trendy sites but I have to say they are consistantly funny. Today’s comic is an echo of something I feel often for example. The art is simple, but still very effective, I highly recommend you give it a look.

The second web comic is Phables. Phables is a series of very intimate looks into the city of Philadelphia done in a very pleasant folk style that doesn’t feel phony or sappy. When I found it I was immediately envious that Philadelphia has such a great cartoonist reflecting its soul without sinking into bitterness, Washington D.C. and every other city could use someone like this as well. Happily for Philadelphia they have Brad Guigar and the comics are readable and fun for anyone regardless of the city they live in, give the strip a look.

I hope some of you made it to a comic store for free comic book day on Saturday. We did and we got some neat stuff, my son in particular scored big and loved his. Other than Talk Like A Pirate Day, Free Comic Book Day is one of the big holidays in the Gecko household. What are some of your big ‘non-traditional’ holidays each year?

It turns out my nephew is into comics, and he took advantage of Free Comic Book Day, too!

Mulberry Appreciation Day (May 29). Without mulberries, ours would be a sadder, less silky existence.
