Ok, I have a nerd confession. I have never loved Transformers. Didn’t watch the cartoons, never had the dolls. That said the new Transformers movie is pretty good. Nobody is going to call it the thinking man’s science fiction film, but it is a very good summer movie with characters you don’t immediately loath and lots of explosions. The robots are well done if you shut down the rational part of brain that is asking why they bother with the whole transform thing. My son loved it of course, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I can say without hesitation it is the best movie about cars that turn into killer robots I have ever seen, as a summer movie I give Transformers a big thumbs up.
