CDBaby Digital Downloads
CD Baby has been a popular place to pick up independent music for awhile now, I have ordered a couple of obscure CDs from them and their service was great, but I have been buying more and more of my music digitally. I like the immediacy of digital, if a band sounds interesting I can check them out, but I hate DRM* so I normally order from Emusic, where I have a monthly sub and only order when desperate from ITunes. Recently ITunes started to add some non-DRM music and I bought quite a bit, but that pool doesn’t seem to be growing, very little new music is turning up there. However Jonathan Coulton pointed out the other day the CD Baby is now selling digital downloads, DRM free. This is great news, I bought some albums already and will be reviewing the bands here, the sound quality is great and the prices are good. Go, have a look.
* Digital Rights Management, the deliberate crippling of digital playback options so that they will only work on certain devices, on certain days, or just stop working at all when the companies pushing these retarded restricted files lose interest, as has happened with Microsoft and Google’s early DRM attempts.

I’m glad to hear the quality of MP3s on CDBaby is great – not that i ever doubted it wouldn’t, as it’s such a great company!
