End of a Tradition
For years the UK newspapers have used fat American’s as an excuse for a number of things like the widening of theater seats in London and the like. Indeed in certain types of stories ‘American’ became a euphemism for fatso. I would then go into the city center of Nottingham and see hundreds, sometimes thousands of ‘Americans’, who were perhaps actually English people of exceptional girth. This story is the first time I have seen a UK paper acknowledge that perhaps the widening of seats is for the local population, rather than just for ‘Americans’. I love that the URL (web link) for this story ends in ‘arses=huge’.

I will say that my ass found the seats at Wembly on the narrow side the one time I was there. (watching the Redskins vs the 49ers in a preseason game, of all things.)
