Good Noises: The Darkest of Hillside Thickets
The Darkest of Hillside Thickets is a theme band dedicated to rock based on HP Lovecrafts mythos. This can easily turn camp but their album The Shadow Out Of Tim is surprisingly good with some songs that have interesting stories in them and nice musical hooks. It is sort of a story album, but as is usual in the the Lovecraft mythos the story isn’t quite straight forward and features a ramble all over the mythos areas and themes. I was expecting a hard sound to the band but they are pretty clean and the focus is on the lyrics and story more than on growling or screaming. You can hear samples at CD Baby, linked above, I bought the album as a digital download and was very happy with the quality. The Thickets have several other albums on Cthuloid themes as well as a space opera album, I plan on picking them all up over time.

Of course I had to buy the CD based upon the science fiction RPG Traveller by the group Lord Weird Slough Feg, even though I’m not really a metalhead.
