Congressional Earmarks are Corruption
If you follow the news you know that one of the promises that Democrats made when they took over Congress was to clean up the corruption that has made us all so cynical about our legislators. They were lying of course, they love the corruption as much as the Republicans do because it makes them rich.
Earmarks are the most public form of corruption out there. We enlightened Americans love to laugh at little banana republics where you have to pay somebody off to do anything, but here we are setting up a situation where if you pay off your congressman you can get a nice little kick back for it. Nice. Hey, lets go lecture somebody about Democracy! Jack Murtha can show you how! You would have to be an idiot to not be cynical with rip off artists from both parties conspiring to corrupt the American Dream. Want to start a business? First bribe a congressman. The party doesn’t matter anymore, the system is broken.

To paraphrase “1776″: “Earmarks are never corruption in the first person - *our* earmark - it’s only the third person - *their* earmark - that they are illegal.”
Which is exactly why they will never go away, no matter what we are told at election time.

I don’t believe we can ever get the leopards to change their spots, but I do think we can control the brazenness with which they display them. It used to be our congressmen tried hard to hide when they were simply being bribed, but now they are so confident that they have blocked every method to investigate and punish their misdeeds that they have stopped even pretending they are clean. Do I think they will someday eliminate corruption? Not unless they can change human nature. I do think we can make them pay attention to how obvious they are being, which will make it harder to be corrupt, which will reduce corruption. Shine some light on the process and quit pretending that ‘our guys’ are clean, even if you like a politician you should watch them like a hawk.

THE PROBLEM OF EARMARKING MUST BE LAID SOLELY AT THE FEET OF REP. PELOSI AND SEN. REID. THE BUCK MUST STOP THERE, AND NOWHERE ELSE.

I respectfully disagree Clayton, I think we are all to blame for letting them get away with it. It is our responsibility to let them know we care and we will vote on our concerns. If we don’t turn them out of office, regardless of party, they will be left believing it is ok to keep playing the games they have been playing. Have a look at Change Congress and see what you think.
