January 22nd: Today in 1879 the Imperial British Army suffered a stunning defeat at the hands of the army of Zulu King Cetshwayo at the Battle of Isandlwana. The battle was a complete disaster for the British force with an army of twelve hundred men completely destroyed in a field battle, something the British Army had believed completely impossible for the lightly armed Zulu army to accomplish.
