It is a bomb, but I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed the Speed Racer movie. I wasn’t a huge fan as a kid, I watched the show, but I would watch darn near anything back then.

What was interesting to me was how much I enjoyed the film in spite of itself. It isn’t the acting, which was ok, but nothing awesome, I think it was the cinematography. They used a ton of interesting techniques to give the movie a feel similar to the cartoon, and broadly they worked really well, particularly during the action scenes but also during exposition bits. The race elements felt video gamey, but were not too long for me and the teams they gave personalities to were great fun. I give the whole movie a a solid B+, which is much better than I expected to give it when I went in.
