This story about Gurkha’s winning the right to stay in the UK is a nice one, I am pleased with the court’s ruling as the Gurkhas have been really used and treated badly by the Brits in general, but the article was also very telling to me about current UK culture. Actress Joanna Lumley has been supporter of the Gurkhas in this and god bless her for it, but if you read the story you might think it was about her and not them. She is quoted in the articles lead and appears in the photo and video. Now I like Joanna Lumley, again no hit on her here, but this story isn’t about her but the in the UK if want to get in the paper you need a celeb, and she is filling the role. Sometimes, just sometimes, the world isn’t all about celebrities, but you won’t ever know that if you follow the UK news.
