May 31rst: Today in 1889 a dam break at the top of steep valley sends a 60 foot wall of water down the valley, the Johnstown Flood. The flood and fires that followed killed some two thousand people. I have driven up that valley and it still seemed to have a sense of dread to it more than a hundred years afterwards.
