July 24th: Today in 1974 the Supreme Court ordered the Nixon White House to hand over tape recordings made in the White House to Special Prosecutor Leon Jaworski who was investigating the Watergate break in and cover up. Unlike many I still view Watergate as a positive event; it showed the systems of checks and balances working well in the American government. Sadly, it has led every aspiring reporter to see every questionable thing done by anyone in government ever since as a potential ‘Watergate’ story, leading to massive over hyping in news reporting and the build up of cynicism of public trust of both government and the news they read.
