Today In History: London Police Service Formed

September 29th: Today in 1829 the London Metropolitan Police Force was formed by Sir Robert Peel. Peel’s name is where the slang ‘Peelers’ or ‘Bobbies’ for policemen comes from. The force is the first regular police force on a modern model and was quickly copied by other nations around the world.

    I thought they were called “bobbies”, or did I have that wrong? They would only be called “Boobies” if they had blue feet.

    I was expecting more enthusiasm for the Giant Squid. Or was it breaded, fried, and eaten by bears?
