Today In History: First Parchute Jump

October 22nd: Today on 1797 Andre-Jacques Garnerin made the first known sucessful parachute jump from a hot air ballon three thousand feet above Paris. This sadly was one of the few ways available to him to participate in Extreme Sports in the dark days before the X-Games.

    Also, piercings were few and far between (and rather dangerous given the sanitation of the time) and the artistry available in tattoos was rather limited. No reasonable rubber or plastic compounds to make skateboard wheels from and forget finding a half pipe. How did anyone survive those times?
