Today In History: Roger Mortimer Hanged

November 29th: Today in 1330 Roger de Mortimer was hanged for treason on orders of Edward III. Roger had ruled England along side Queen Isabella, together they are accused of the murder of Edward II. Earlier in November 1330 Edward III and some knights had snuck into Nottingham Castle, which had been locked against him, using tunnels that Roger and Isabella did not know about and arrested Roger. Nottingham Castle is sadly long gone, but the tunnel remains and you can take a tour of it at the current manor house on the site.
