January 26th: Today in 1788 a British fleet established the first permanent settlement of Europeans in Australia in Sydney. This allowed them a new place to dump prisoners as Georgia in the United States was no longer an option to them due to the American Revolution. So Happy Australia Day to all readers on the far side of the world!
