Today In History: To Kill A King

January 30th: Today in 1649 Charles I, the King of England is executed. Charles refused to plea at his trial, believing that the court had no jurisdiction over him, this proved to be a mistake for him, but it did allow his family to place themselves well to overthrow Cromwell’s military dictatorship later. After the restoration those who signed the death warrant wear hunted down, even Cromwell was beheaded, two years after he had already died.
