Today In History: Marbury Vs. Madison Decided

February 24th: Today in 1803 the Supreme Court decided the case of Marbury Vs. Madison, which set the precedent that the courts would be the final arbitrator of what laws were constitutional. Essentially Congress can pass any laws it wants to, but because of Marbury Vs. Madison the courts have the final say whether the laws can be actually implemented under the constitution or not. Not everyone loved this law then or now but in the end somebody has to have the final say and in the US today that is the Supreme Court.
