March 29th: Many people have heard of the Zulu war battles of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift, made famous in the movies Zulu and Zulu Dawn, but the battle of Khambula was a more traditional colonial battle. The Zulus charged against rifle armed British troops in defensive positions and were mowed down. The bravery of the Zulu is inspiring, but this battle is far more typical than its more famous cousins.
