March 19th: Today in 1687 the great French explorer Robert de LaSalle was murdered by his men in Texas. LaSalle was resposible for claiming the Mississippi for France and spent his life on the far frontiers of the French empire. He drove him men hard and survived serveral attempts at mutiny before the one that eventually took his life.
