Today In History: Napoleon Returns
March 20th: Today in 1815 Napoleon returns from exile on the island of Elbe and occupies Paris, starting his final brief reign as emperor. For the most part his army abandoned the recently restored King and flocked back to his banner, but there were troubling signs in some of the prominent generals who did not return to him. This return set all of Europe at war with France and was ended at the Battle of Waterloo with Napoleon being exiled to Saint Helena where he eventually died.
