Today In History: The U-2 Crisis

May 1rst: Today in 1960 Gary Powers was shot down while on a spy flight in a U-2 over the Soviet Union. This was classic Cold Wars stuff with the US claiming it was a NASA weather plane and the Soviets holding back the fact they had captured the pilot for days. In the end Powers was convicted as being a spy and sentenced to a Soviet prison. He was fairly quickly exchanged for a Soviet spy and the Cold War rolled on.
