May 4th: Today in 1855 William Walker set out with 57 men to conquer Nicaragua from San Fransisco. He had no legal standing other than might makes right, but for two years he ruled Nicaragua and threatened to conquer more of South America. In the end he was driven out and after foolishly returning to South America he was executed.
