Today In History: In A Galaxy Far Far Away….

May 25th: Today in 1977 the first of the two Star Wars movies opened. I remember it very well, saw it on opening day with a friend who was also into comics. We were both comics fans and had bought the whole comic adaptation but neither of us had read the last issues as we didn’t want to spoil the movie. The theater was jammed and we stuffed our way into seats and were totally blown away. It was one of the few times I have had a film I was excited about not only reach my expectations, but went way past them. It was just amazing. The sequel was brilliant as well, I look forward to Lucas someday completing the movie cycle. Hard to believe it was 29 years ago.

“…first of the two…” Hmm.. I have to ask, which two do you consider cannon?

Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. Someone tried to pass off a muppet movie as a third Star Wars film, but any idiot could see it was nothing more than a toy commercial. A few years ago somebody made some bad internet quality films that they claimed were Star Wars, but they stunk so bad it was obvious they were fan knock offs. Lucas must have been pissed. Can’t wait to see him finish off the movies someday.

Simon, don’t antagonize the Brett. He is fiesty when cornered and those claws aren’t just for show! Let him live in his nice quiet world…
