Absolutely on the slight bias towards to the guilty getting away, but I feel this one is well past the slight bias point and the only reason this is in the news is a bunch of rich and powerful people are the targets, if we were the targets that bias would get pretty slight in a hurry. I know where you are coming from and as someone who favors second amendment rights I know all about slippery slope arguments, but this doesn’t look like a step towards totalitarianism to me, just looks like law enforcement. Agree on the whole conspiracy thing, humans are just not built for good conspiracies, but we sure like to think they are out there….

I see what you’re saying and agree for the most part… both here and in your response to my previous reply. I think what I’m trying to express is that, to me, it’s like: would you rather live under a legal system where the slight bias is towards the guilty getting away or the innocent being jailed? No system being perfect, I’ll take the occasional guilty getting away. So, in a similar way, would you rather live under a system that is at greater threat of being turned absolutist or where the occasional corrupt scumbag gets away with lining his pockets for a while? On the power corruption scale, I’ll take the occasional profiteer over a dictator any day. Also, on a lighter note, this is the sort of thing that makes me feel a little safer in laughing at the fake-moon-landing mind-control-beam-avoiding government-has-aliens conspiracy types.
