The London Stone

I am a bit of a London History buff and had never heard of the London Stone. Apparently I am not alone in this as its recent history shows. Interesting to see how legends wax and wane.

London stone, kidney stone, gall stone, whatever….

How very cool! I always enjoyed the Temple of Mithras that’s right in front of a bank building in London’s finance district. Of course, it’s a bit large and showy compared to the humble stone.
And then there is the ancient and venerable statue of Robin Hood in Nottingham. Wait a minute, that city is all concerned about crime, when the most famous native son was known fro stealing???

Hjalti: I would hate to try and pass that stone….

Carol: Hmmm. I suspect there is a great deal less giving to the poor nowadays, but good point.

  4. Carol Says:

Well, speaking of Robin Hood specifically, he did give a lot to the local hosiery manufacturers what with the demand for green tights, but stocking makers were known to be poor.

Perhaps today’s thieves are finding other ways to put the money back into the economy.
