The Grand List of Overused Science Fiction Cliches is just what it says it is. Very comprehesive. You really have to love the Internet.

The first one that made me laugh out loud:

Section II: Overused Settings and Characterizations

    59. Everyone in the post-catastrophic future dresses like heavy metal musicians.

They seem overly anxious to pick on Star Trek plots, forgetting that the first time it was done it wasn’t cliche yet. I would love to see an equivelent fantasy cliche list.

    Hmmm…
    We could start one…

Hero is ineffectual, living a drab mundane life. Dreams of
having great power and/or adventure. Dream comes true.

Hero is seeking some great wizard or warrior to be trained by.
    Encounters apparently harmless/powerless character. After
adventure and frustration the character reveals himself to be
the great whatever and informs the hero that the adventure was
all the training that he requires.

Hero is tasked with transporting some valuable object from one
place to another along with some attendants. Turns out that the
object is valueless and that one of the attendants is a VIP.

Small weak hero finds themselves in possesion of object of ultimate evil. Must venture to the heart of all evil to destroy object.
