Today In History: Postal Rules

June 13th: Today in 1920 the US Post Office ruled you can not send children via parcel post. Ok, this one is highly suspect, but it shows up on multiple ‘this day in history lists‘. I tried to verify it, but drew a blank. I normally won’t post them if I can’t verify it and the official history has no mention of it so I suspect it is an internet legend, but I liked it so here it is.

Damn decent of them! I saw a thread somewhere recently where someone had apparently asked if they could mail a puppy. I believe it’s still ok to mail chicks (as in baby chickens, not cute girls), but the SPCA is working to change it.

Oh come on Carol, what’s the problem with mailing kids? You put a couple of peanut butter sandwiches and a bottle of water in with them, punch a few air holes, make sure the box is taped up nice and tight and you’re good to go.

I don’t know what the regulations are on mailing kids. I hear they eat anything, so peanut butter sandwiches would do. But how do they open the water bottles with their little cloven hooves?
