Today In History: Hanging of Thomas Hinkey

June 28th: Today in 1776 Thomas Hinkey was hanged for his part in a large conspiracy to kill George Washington. The plot was led by the loyalist Mayor of New York City and by William Tyron, the colonial Governer of New York, but it fell apart when Hinkey was jailed for another crime and bragged of his part in the conspiracy to another prisoner. On June 28th Hinkey was hanged for treason, sedition and mutiny.
