Today In History: Townsend Acts Pass Parliment
June 29th: Today in 1767 the Townsend Acts pass parliment as another attempt to tax the American colonists without giving them any representation. The acts were an import duty rather than a direct tax like the Stamp Act, but it proved no more popular in America and led to mass protests and was ignored by many bringing goods into the country. It is amazing how angry the populace got about taxes back then, now I can’t count the number of taxes, fees and charges I pay everyday, my forefathers would be aghast at my spendthrift ways.
