July 24th: Today in 1411 one of the bloodiest battles in Scottish history and a classic lowland vs. highland battles took place at Harlaw, near Aberdeen. The battle was a classic game of highland charges against a lowland pike squares with both sides fighting until they simply couldn’t fight anymore. The battle is remembered in the Child Ballad, The Battle of Harlaw.
