William Wallace Sword on view in New York

‘Braveheart’ Sword Leaves Scotland for an exihibit in New York’s Grand Central Station. I was unaware that this sword was still around, there are not many from that period that can be connected to a single individual.

It’s on record as being in Dumbarton Castle for 6 centuries before being moved to the Wallace Monument in Stirling in the 1890’s. James the Fourth of Scotland had it rehilted in 1505 on the occasion of the bicentennial of Wallace’s execution.
So while the blade is 700 years old the hilt is a “new” 500 years!

It is an amazing thing to me. I am unaware of any other sword with as direct a lineage that old. Even if the hilt is only a teenager…
