Today In History: Bugs Bunny Debuts In ‘A Wild Hare’

July 27th: Today in 1940 Bugs Bunny makes his first appearance as the character we know today in ‘A Wild Hare‘. The rabbit had been used before, appearing first in ‘Porky’s Hare Hunt‘ in 1938, where he first uttered ‘Of course you realize, this means war!’, but ‘A Wild Hare’ by director Tex Avery is the cartoon that established Bugs as more than a throw away and made him a stand alone star. Happy 66th Bugs!
