Ten Drivers I Hate In Ten Days: Day Seven – Reporters

Reporters: Reporters are those lovely folks who slow down to a crawl while passing an accident, even if the accident is on the other side of the road and not blocking them, so that they can soak up the full ambiance of the accident scene. They just love to see bent fenders and broken glass, they will nearly orgasm if they see any blood or a fire. They must soak up every detail so they can accurately report back the gory details to their friends, who presumably have never seen an accident themselves.

Nothing to see here, move along!

Oh, so that’s why they do it!

I have taken to shielding my view with my hand when passing an accident. It does not let me go any faster, since the other cars are slowing down, but I can at the very least refuse to look.

It used to be too easy to say to myself, “Well, since I’m going slow anyway, I might as well take a look…” but I’ve seen enough accidents and if I need more I can rent a driver’s ed movie.
