August 16th: Today in 1780 the British under General Cornwallis decisively defeated the American Army under General Gates at the Battle of Camden in South Carolina. The battle was quick with the British quickly routing the American army and sending General Gates fleeing for days to the rear. The somewhat happy ending to this debacle was the sacking of Gates to be replaced by the much more competent General Greene.
