Today In History: Pompeii Destroyed
August 24th: Today in 79 Mount Vesuvius erupted and destroyed the Roman towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The loss of life was large but the destruction has left us with some great artifacts of Rome near the height of its power. This is near the top of places I want to visit before I die, I do wonder what our civilization will leave for posterity.

I highly recommend a visit. It’s ver nace!
I would still like to visit Herculaneum and the museum in Naples (which apparently has all the cool loose stuff they took out of Pompeii).
Pompeii was amazingly larger than I expected. I was thinking Williamsburg — it’s bigger. And this was a small seaside resort! It really gave me a sense of Rome falling.
