Today In History: Gehrig Starts Streak

Friday, June 2nd, 2006

June 2nd: Today in 1925 Lou Gehrig stood in for the Yankees regular first baseman Wally Pipp and started a streak of 2,130 baseball games without missing a game. The record has since been broken by Cal Ripken Jr but the feat is still amazing and well worth celebrating. Gehrig was a class act.

Slow Posting

Wednesday, May 17th, 2006

Sorry for the lack of posts, just been feeling like hell for the last couple of days. Not sick, just a bit depressed I think. Anyway hopefully more posting when I perk up a bit. I do have something to celebrate, as an Orioles fan I am always thankful there are the Tampa Bay Devil [...]

Baltimore Tied With The Yankees In AL East

Monday, April 10th, 2006

If you note a downward line in my Baltimore standings postings it just means that the season is almost a week old. Still, tied with the Yankees….

Tuesday, April 4th, 2006

The Orioles are in a tie at the top of American League East. This may be the only time this year I get to say this, so I will enjoy it.

New DC Baseball Stadium

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

I am looking forward to trying to get to some Nationals [...]

Today In History: Ruth Traded

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2006

January 3rd: Today in 1920 the legendary and now thought to be defeated ‘Curse of the Bambino‘ begins for the Boston Red Sox as they trade Babe Ruth to the Yankees. I would of course be happy if both the Sox and Yankees were to claim a new curse, the ‘Curse of the Super Spenders’ [...]

Today In History: Cal Ripken Breaks Consecutive Baseball Game Played Record

Tuesday, September 6th, 2005

September 6th: Today in 1995 Cal Ripken broke Lou Gerhig’s consecutive games played record. I was at the game and remember it as one of the most enjoyable evenings in my life, which is very odd considering I have never met Cal Ripken in person, but being a sports fan is odd. This was about [...]

Upbeat Orioles Prediction from ESPN.

Tuesday, April 5th, 2005

Kurkjian: Make or break April? Is relatively upbeat look at the Orioles and the safety of their Manager Lee Mazzilli. I am an Orioles fan, and not objective here, but I am hopeful some of the young pitchers can produce this year.

Why I don’t have high hopes for the Orioles this year.

Ok, the other day Eric DuBose is picked up for drunk driving, now we find out that Sydney Ponson hurts his hand in fight at restaurant. Apparently they stopped giving the IQ test to pitch for the Orioles after Jim Palmer left.
