History Cookbook

Cookit, The History Cookbook This is a very nice little site with historical English recipes. Some look very tasty, others less so but it is a nice view on how food has changed over the centuries, at least in England. One obvious difference is the bits we throw away, other than in hot dogs there are a lot of bits we just don’t eat anymore that once were considered delicacies and still are in many parts of the world.

A Very Specific Niche

One of the keys for success on the interwebs is to have a specific niche, mine doesn’t but I don’t always listen to good advice sadly. I have found a site however that is very well targeted indeed, it is Cutting Open an Animal and Crawling Inside to Survive a Storm in the Wild and it is about exactly what it says in the title. You never know when you will need this kind of specific info.

Musical Roots

Boing Boing just ran an excellent series on cultural roots of music and how blind most are to them. It runs fifteen parts, each illustrated by a video and covers country, soul, blues, bluegrass, classical and each is worth watching. I love following the roots of music, as a society we ignore so much excellent music, it is nice to see some really great music highlighted. This is the first one, I think they are all worth watching.

Supernatural Collective Noun Chart

David Malki of the brilliant Wondermark comic today has an absolutely essential list of supernatural collective nouns. Now when I run a D&D game I will be able to tell the players they are being attacked by an audacity of gargoyles. Remember, knowing is half the battle.

Adopt A Word To Save The Language

Save The Words is asking everyone to adopt a word that has fallen into disuse and save it from falling out of the English language. I have adopted Snollygoster, a definition can be found here, which is a word that describes almost everyone in our congress. Anyhow, there are many words without homes, if you can find a place in your heart for a word you can bring home visit the Save The Words site and adopt one today before the snollygosters make it illegal.

Carol sent me a link to the The Miskatonic Valley Junior Baseball Association the other day and I thought I should share it with you all. Due to unfortunate circumstances the league is down to two teams this year, the The Innsmouth Guppies VS the Dunwich Whippoorwills. I am a bit broke right now or I would be picking up my Innsmouth Guppies fan pack. After the leagues misfortunes I am not sure I will be driving up for any games however. Go Guppies!
