Fighting back against the insect threat.

Thursday, April 28th, 2005

Man bitten by deadly spider manages to snap picture of spider with cell phone camera. Apparently he didn’t think it was serious at first, but once the situation turned bad the hospital was able to use the cell phone photo to id the insect perp. Maybe humanity stands a slim chance against this insect threat [...]

My adventures in the Drug Wars.

Wednesday, April 27th, 2005

Today I stumbled into the middle of the war on drugs. I take Advil Cold and Sinus to supplement my allergy medicine and to keep the sinus headaches down. Unfortunetly it isn’t available in the UK, which perhaps should have been foreshadowing, so I buy it when I am in the US. I tend to [...]

Today In History: Battle of Dunbar

Wednesday, April 27th, 2005

April 27th: Today in 1296 Edward I won yet another battle in the long series of battles that lead to his nickname as the Hammer of Scotland. In this battle the smaller English army tempted the Scots into an ill conceived charge and then massacred the Scots after the charge failed. Edward has been rewarded [...]

Japanese automakers thinking of taking it easy on crippled US car makers. Sadly, not a joke.

Wednesday, April 27th, 2005

In this news story Hiroshi Okuda basicly says we own America, but don’t want it to be too obvious because then the Americans might wake up and do something about it. As if.

Hybrid Car Sales way up, Detroit still thinking about it.

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005

As we look at moving back to the US this summer I have been thinking about cars and the Hybrids look pretty good. Sales on them are way up, but the selection is pretty limited at the moment as Detroit is still thinking about it mostly. The US car makers seem to be focusing on [...]

Ants forming cunning traps out of the plant they live on. I suspect PETA should get involved in reforming these ants as this doesn’t sound very friendly to the insects that get trapped.

Today In History: John Scopes doesn’t teach Evolution in class, but wishes he did.

Sunday, April 24th, 2005

April 24th: April 24th 1925 is the day John Scopes was alleged in an indictment to have taught evolution in a biology class. In actuality he had done nothing of the sort, but was quite happy to be the guinea pig in a case against a terrible law. The case was a media circus, much [...]

Great Real World Comic Comes Online

Saturday, April 23rd, 2005

Girl Genius, the only paper comic I subscribe to has just come online as a web comic. It is a steampunkie adventure series in the light space opera vein. It was slow publishing for years in the real world, but I am glad to see it come around as a web comic and wish them [...]

Today In History: Battle of Clontarf

Saturday, April 23rd, 2005

April 23rd: Today in 1014 the Battle of Clontarf was fought between the Vikings and the Irish forces of Brian Boru. The battle ended with a victory by the Irish forces, but the death of Brian Boru led to a disorganized Ireland for many years afterwards and the myth that the battle drove the vikings [...]
